If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed.

Many of you have asked for them, and now they’re here: the Guitar Hero 3 boss songs.

Previously, the three boss battle songs could only be played in career mode as a battle, but now they are available as a free content pack via Xbox Live. There aren’t any new songs in the pack, but you will get the ability to play these three songs in practice, single player, and multi-player modes.

The songs include:

  • Battle with Tom Morello
  • Battle with Slash
  • Battle with Lou - The Devil Went Down to Georgia

So hop onto the Xbox Live Marketplace and download these songs for yourself!

Check out these limited edition orange controllers that were only given to members of the press. I’ll admit that I am a bit jealous… they look awesome.

Think you’ll see these things for sale on eBay or some other aftermarket? I doubt it. Your only chance at getting something like this is to mod it yourself, which shouldn’t bee too hard as everything seems standard other than the outer casing, the decal, and the white bottom.

Here are a two articles that will teach you how to paint your controller… all you need to do is match the color:

Do you like the orange or would you paint yours a different color? What color would you choose?

As you’ve probably heard, Xbox Live is currently celebrating their fifth anniversary (officially started on November 15th, 2002). They are hosting a handful of events and giving away some free stuff.I already posted about the XBL Arcade game, Carcassonne, that will be available to download free for 48 hours, and now it looks like they are also offering six free Xbox 360 dashboard themes. They all look pretty cool to me, but why don’t you have a look for yourself:

Live is 5ive Theme:

I like the simplicity here, but it might be a bit too plain. I would have liked to see more colors other than just the plain gray background.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein Theme:

This theme looks very cool, but I think they should have left the Wolfenstein logo off of the backgrounds. It shouldn’t be there if it just gets obscured by the blades.

Gears of War Theme:

This is my favorite; a great theme for a great game. The background images are stunning and the logo actually compliments them, unlike the logo in the Wolfenstein theme.

Ghost Recon 2 Theme:

This one is my least favorite. The background images are just too dull and the ones with characters in them appear poorly rendered.

Halo 2 Theme:

This will probably be the most popular just because it’s Halo. I do like it, but not as much as the Gears theme.

MechAssault Theme:

My second favorite. Those large robots just look cool and they are represented nicely on all of the blades.

Anyways, those are just the Xbox Live backgrounds for the six freely available themes. To see the backgrounds for all of the blades, check out the official web page.

The one thing that bothers me about ALL Xbox 360 dashboard themes is the tiled backgrounds for the guide. Why can’t they just let you use the default? I usually stick with the default theme for this reason. I would love to have the themed backgrounds with the clean and easy to read guide.

In addition to these six themes, they are also giving away 500 free Microsoft Points to all members who have been a part of Xbox Live since the beginning. I wasn’t such an early adopter, so I won’t be receiving that gift. How about you?

I love when Microsoft gives away free Xbox Live Arcade games, so naturally I am pretty excited about this freebie coming up. They are giving it away as a celebration of Xbox Live’s 5th birthday, starting on November 15th at 12 am.

Carcassonne is an 800 MSPoint board game that actually has received some very good reviews.

A game of Carcassonne is played on a gridded board and using 72 tiles as the playing pieces. These tiles have a certain symmetry to them, so you can create matching connections between them, with the objective being to construct self-contained cities, roads, farms and more. With the tiles looking like squares snipped out of Google Earth, they need to be rotated then placed on the board in such a way as to form the largest properties possible.

It also comes with support for the Xbox Vision Camera, up to 5 players via Xbox Live, and various achievements as you would expect from a 360 game. It looks like a good deal to me (can’t beat free) and seems like it will be fun to play. Here’s a video of it in action:

Make sure you are on Xbox Live for this free download between 12:01 am November 15th and 11:59 pm November 16th… don’t miss out!

Supreme Commander is a great PC game, and it looks like they will be bringing it over to the Xbox 360 in 2008.

Now, I love RTS games, but I don’t really enjoy playing them with a console controller. The 360 has USB support, so why not enable mouse and keyboard support for this game? If they can’t, I’ll just continue to hook my PC up to my HDTV to play them.

The controlled graphics enviornment (no need to play with quality sliders) and the amazing Xbox Live system are a great thing that I would love to have for RTS games, but I don’t want to sacrafice the use of a mouse.

Here’s a trailer for the PC version, courtesy of YouTube and GameSpot:

I haven’t had a chance to play Assasin’s Creed yet, but I plan to check it out very soon. In a post about the launch trailer, I mentioned that the game needs to live up to its hype and actually be fun to play. Because of this, I have been eagerly anticipating the first batch of reviews around the web.

The first review I read was from PlanetXbox360 who actually gave the game a pretty low score. Then I checked GameSpot and found that they gave it a great score and an editor’s choice award. Here’s how the reviews stack up around the internet:

  • IGN: 7.7 US, 8.7 AU (Really, is there a difference?) [Read]
  • GameSpot: 9.0 (Plus editor’s choice) [Read]
  • PlanetXbox360: 6.7 (That bad, huh?) [Read]
  • GameInformer: 9.5 (Highest yet) [No Link]
  • GameTrailers: 9.1 (Another favorable review) [Read]
  • 1UP: 7 (Second worst) [Read]
  • GamePro: 5/5 (So you’re saying it’s perfect?) [No Link]

I don’t get much comfort from looking at those mixed reviews. I think the GamePro review can be discounted, it seems that they bought into the hype. My favorite review source is GameSpot, so I hope that what they say is true. Only time will tell though, I should be popping Assassin’s Creed into my 360 within the next 24 hours.

In Major Nelson’s latest marketplace roundup, it was revealed that Tiger Woods fans were getting some free downloadable content.

The download is for a playable version of the Turnberry Golf Resort in Scotland and weights in at about 215MB. It’s available immediately for all XBOX Live regions.

“Expand your game with one of Europe’s finest courses: Turnberry Golf Resort. Play online and offline, and post and play your EA SPORTS™ GamerNet clips with this free download.”

Two Assasin’s Creed related posts in a row can be expected with all the hype this game has received. We’ve all seen plenty of gameplay videos, and many of you have probably even seen this trailer on TV over the past week. If you haven’t seen it yet, here is an online version:

I don’t know if it’s the hype, the graphics, or the cool theme, but I think the game looks great. I will definately give it a fair try. But, if the mechanics are broken and the game is no fun, I will not play for long.

It takes a pretty good gaming experience for me to play through an entire game, there are just too many competing for my attention, but I’m really hoping that Assasin’s Creed provides that experience.

Take a look at this YouTube video of a guy demonstrating his homemade Assasin’s Creed shank. He’s actually using a real blade and whips it out pretty fast. I guess he has a lot of confidence in his craftsmanship.

Aside from the fact that he could seriously cut himself up with this thing, I also think it’s crazy that he felt it was necessary to use a real blade. Does he plan on putting it to use?

I’ve had a lot of fun playing the previous three Xbox 360 FIFA games over Xbox Live, but it was always one on one. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you only controlled one player, and all of your teammates were actual people?

EA Sports has announced that FIFA ‘08 will support online team play. What this means is that each team can have a total of 5 players from 5 different XBL accounts. While it won’t allow you to have all human teammates, having four is definately a step up from zero. It should make for some fun matches, especially when a group of five long-time teammates joins up to dominate the competition.

What do you think about this new feature? I like the way online games are headed, with more players being supported in single games. I’m looking forward to seeing sports games support enough humans to control every playing in the game and for first-person-shooters to support 32 or more players (like on the PC) for some insane battles.
